How to Make Beautiful Wedding Gift Baskets

August 23rd, 2006 by kevindark

Wedding gifts change with the seasons and over the years. A mere forty years ago you could expect to get a number of crock pots for your wedding.  About five to ten years later, the gift of choice appeared to be the fondue set.  Fast forwarding to the year 2000, it appears that for a while gift cards and gift certificates were becoming all the rage.  Fortunately, things have changed again, and these days wedding gift baskets are a popular gift for bridal showers and at weddings.  Yet do you know how to prepare wedding gift baskets that will wow a bride?

If you are getting ready to attend a bridal shower or even a wedding, gift baskets will make wonderful gifts.  They can be modified to match the taste of the bride, the color scheme of the wedding, as well as the budget of the gift giver.  Generally speaking, each basket is specifically tailored to meet the couple’s needs and tastes.

Granted, when you walk through the big box stores these days you will probably see a large number of prepackaged wedding gift baskets that contain any number of towels, soaps, and other useful yet artful items.  If you are putting together your own basket, please keep the following in mind:

• For a wedding, gift baskets should follow the color scheme of the bride as closely as possible.  If the main colors are mauve and white, then it would be wise to keep the basket colors as close to that scheme as you can.  If you find that the things you wish to put inside are of stronger colors, such as deep reds, or strong blues, it is best to cover the entire basket with a mauve cloth or paper and tie it all together with a white broad ribbon.

• Know the needs of the couple.  Those who might be getting married for the first time may not have all the kitchen gadgets they need to adequately set up their first household.  On the other hand, if the bride and groom are more mature and perhaps own their own homes, the odds are good that they have more than enough kitchen gadgets to go around.  Keep this in mind when shopping for the wedding gift baskets.

• More mature couples or those who “have everything” do not need any more towels or candles, but instead will value the gift of quality time.  This can be accomplished by filling a small basket with gift cards to local restaurants and coffee shops.  Depending on your budget, you might even wish to include a weekend getaway to a nearby vacation spot or spa for the couple to spend some time away from home and relax.

As you can see, an occasion such as a wedding truly lends itself to the creation of wedding gift baskets.  There is precious little that cannot be put into one of these wedding gift baskets.  Consider for example the couple who enjoys drinking a good glass of wine – simply include a gift certificate to your neighborhood wine seller!  If the husband to be is an avid golfer, a prepaid round of golf will make a wonderful addition to the basket as well.  Do not forget any children the couple may already have.  A little something for them in the basket will go a long ways to ensure that the wedding day will be happy and memorable for everyone involved.
